It was the Autumn of 2009, Oswestry town our local boozer 'The Golden Lion was holding a Wilfred Owen Evening, with Mr Owen being.....well Oswestrys only
Meanwhile next door something was brewing., amidst yet another frame of 3s and 5s, (Dominoes my dear chaps and chapes's). Deborah Harris chirps up to announce 'I know, we shall do a cover of Kate Bush's Army Dreamers, to mark this wondrous occasion'! Bewildered, whilst his mind was on his next move, Innes Reid asks 'what occasion'? 'The Wilfred Owen Night at The GL'! Dean Murray Newton in full Dean mode retorts 'Yes and we can call our selves 'The Bush Babies'!
Not exactly a tribute act to 'The Bush', but out of that marvellous night, a band was formed that performed in an unusual and dramatic fashion, (such as using a rifle on stage as rhythm section), for approximately half a year......before being sentenced for taking things a tad to far.
Here is a link to 'The Bush Babies' performing 'Army Dreamers live for 'Oswestry live festival' at 'The Golden Lion' . Featuring original band members - Banjo Dave - banjo, Deborah Harris vocals and sax, Dean M Newton - rhythm and backing vocals and Innes Reid - guitar and backing vocals.
Oh dear, what have we done?
(In reference to the blood or what in the
hells name have we started)?

Act 2 - Shifty Chicken Shed
After 6 months hard labour, the unlikely Trio were let out on good behaviour for being fans of Race Recordings legend, and 12 string guitar pioneer 'Leadbelly'.
Mean while back at the Shed, Stewert James was busy honing his hill billy punk political ranty song, in the form of 'Good God Gordon'......'YOUR VERY MUCH MISTAKEN GOOOORDON'!
Then in a stroke of genius, Innes reversed the chords to 'GGG' and the song 'Dirty Hands' was born, 'SHAKEY SHAKEY TOO MUCH HEAD' - repeat....repeat.....PETE!
(Guest appearance in the video by Mathew Kelly look alike Stewert, in a home made Mathew Kelly mask).
Shifty Chicken Had arrived on......the scene!
The Shiftys were building up some momentum, with some shit kicking performances and rave reviews of their 1st album 'Town'. However rave reviews don't pay no dues with the tax man, thus a new project was on the horizon.......
Here is a link to 'Dirty Hands' video featuring the above and Dean M Newton.
Here is a link to a live performance of 'GGG', at 'The Plough' in Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant'.
Original band members Stewert James - gob iron and vocals, Deborah Harris - sax and Innes Reid. - guitar.
Act 3 - esh she esh.....products!
At the request of the owner Alex, the re-branding of 'Oswestry Kebab Shop'.
A very weary and hung over Shifty, perform their song 'Come', to a very bemused Mayor of Oswestry, and various other local councillors.
(Sorry Alex for the poor performance, and our apologies to the shower of corruption that stood before us, if we threw your day off Kilter)!
From left to right -
Dean M Newton, Innes Reid, Deborah Harris and Bazzatron.
Whilst watching the dreadful film 'Entrapment' one New Years Eve, Dean was perfecting his hammed up Sean Connery impression. He also added the flavour of a local character called Andrew Guy, and hey presto........'Hi I'm Gazza Toss....WHAT'! Was born.
Now what? Well funny you should ask, with a sales man like Toss, all we had to do was come up with some products to sell, such as? EYE WIG, CHIN STRAP AND CILIT BANG CEILING MOP! We even had a 'Wash Board work shop' Youtube tutorial with Gazzas mate Hessian Pig thrown in for good measure!
But alas this bunch of anarchic thumb twiddlers took it too far, with 'Adopt an Hour'. Once again our unlikey heros next door found them selves in the clink. This time for fraud, it was soon found out there was no such charity......for time!

The above photos respectivly, Hessian Pig and Gazza Toss.
'I have just had the most amazing dream'! An excited Deborah declares
to a foggy Innes on a fuzzy Sunday morning.
'Great lets make a film out of it', declares a slowly rising Reid.
'All we have to do, is record an album of 13 songs, then set about
making, and editing a film! Easy peasy Japan-easy'!
Now Deborah for the most part had been playing around with
short films for the bands and adverts for Esh She Esh, and whatnot
.....whatnot? Yes friggin whatnot....keep up will you, but a
feature film? Wow, wow, woh, woh there Buck, back up Buck!
But we don't make films.....well. We do now!
So with Dean back on board playing the lead role of Malcolm and the rest of the ever changing faces of Shifty involved, three years later, (or four), the film, 'Mr Pergolas Ever Creasing Shirt', was complete and ready for viewing, brought to you by Moron Media!
We have also brought a short film called Robbin
B'strds out which is an extract out of The Pergola
feature film. See link below for trailer.
Here is our official trailer to the short 'Robbin B'strds'.
The above image shows the character Malcolm and Gang performing 'King Clue', an extract from the Pergola film. Shot on location at 'The Ex Servicemens
Club' Oswestry, thanks to the then Proprietor of the said establishment, Bill Turner. .
